Have you had a “one chance” experience? – SCN Encourager 2/14/2014

It’s bigger than an “a-ha moment.”

A “one chance” experience can be life-changing… or even life-saving depending upon the prior choices made, the people participating, and the luck involved.

This is why people don’t forget their “one chance” experiences.

They’re the kind of thing you tell your grandchildren about.

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 7.40.43 PMI can’t get a Jesse Owens quote out of my mind; the words he said before winning the gold medal in the 100m sprint at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

“One chance is all I need.”

And with everything on the line, Jesse Owens stepped up.

He stepped up four times, in fact, on his way to capturing four gold medals.

The calm confidence he demonstrated while being cast in the light of unparalleled historical context is something I can’t fathom.

“One chance is all I need.”

There’s a lesson here, especially for someone like me who… well, depends on having lots of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances within easy reach.

Maybe I’m not as grateful for my “one chance” experiences as I should be.

Jesse Owens sure didn’t seem to take any of his for granted, as he proved before millions that one man’s properly focused mindset and strong will could defeat the Nazi might.

Leadership and life coach Michael Hyatt writes about mindset and priorities often.

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 7.29.56 PMHe recently posted this five minute minute video of Flight 1549 survivor Ric Elias.

You’ll recall that Flight 1549 was the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York several years ago.

Ric embraced his “one chance” experience to learn three lessons.

Take a look at this video and you’ll definitely have a great weekend – guaranteed!

Not that anybody, anything, any household chore, or any family event will change.

You’ll just see and accept them all differently.

AND… I’m already seeing one thing differently thanks to this Encourager — the 2/14/2014 date up at the top.

My wife and daughters will now be shocked to find out that I didn’t miss Valentine’s Day!

“One obvious reminder is all I need.”
