Some things are best left unexplained (like the curious anomaly in this survey) – SCN Encourager

Just listening to the news can make life interesting in my house.

The lead story yesterday had nothing to do with politics or terror.

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 8.19.49 PMAt least on many TV and radio stations in west Michigan.

Grand Rapids was named one of the best places in our nation for singles.

The financial website “WalletHub” said so.

The survey results were in.

Grand Rapids was pegged as the 23rd best spot for “dating” and it nailed down the 48th spot as the best place for “fun and romance.”

Cool!

“Hey, Cindy,” I said, recalling that our very first date took place in Grand Rapids decades ago, “Did you hear that? Grand Rapids ranked way up there as one of the best places for dating.”

“Hmmm.” she mused, “Must be a slow news day.”

“Well, those rankings are weird,” I continued. “Why would dating be ranked 23rd and fun and romance be ranked 48th?  Why the gap? I’d think dating and fun and romance would all go together. What’s the difference?”

“Hmmm.” she mused again, but now in a way that troubled me, as I think she was starting to remember our very first date in Grand Rapids as well. “Do you really want me to tell you the difference between dating and fun and romance?”

“No,” I replied, wising up and sensing I should change the subject pronto, “How ’bout let’s go Christmas shopping Friday night?”

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 9.19.23 PMScrew ol’ WalletHub and its dumb surveys anyway.

I’m not going mention them ever again.

From now on, when it comes to surveys about dating and fun and romance –

I won’t ask.

So Cindy won’t have to tell.
