Work and home life at 190 mph – SCN Encourager 3/24/2014
Talk about things coming at you fast!
Nascar drivers surpass even the most productive school communicators in working at extreme speeds.
How do they do it?
Yeah, they need talent. experience, and skill… but I sure hope there’s an additional contributing factor.
Sometimes talent, experience, and skill require too long a reach for me. (Not unlike the ol’ “diet and exercise” combo…)
So, what’s the big secret behind a top Nascar driver’s ability to perform with excellence at incredibly high speeds in competitive, ever-changing environments?
The answer in a word is vision.
Every Nascar driver always strives to maintain his or her gaze on what’s up ahead or the results could be disastrous.
The steadfastness to their vision is critical to not only winning, but survival.
Looking at the wall only directs the car and driver into the wall.
Looking at the competitors only keeps the car and driver muddled in the pack.
Looking for food places and restrooms frequently... only makes you a driver like me.
Somehow, someway… Nascar drivers are disciplined enough to limit their distractions.
Wish I could be.
My wife Cindy walked by while I was writing this Encourager and asked how it was coming along.
“Pretty good,” I replied. “It’s one of my shortest ones ever.”
“Better stop while you’re ahead then,” she said, “But hey, why’d you place ‘work’ ahead of ‘home life’ in your headline?”
Oops.
You have no idea how much I wish I had caught this before she saw it.
Dang distractions!
